Expectations

Throughout history, women have had certain expectations about how to act, what to wear, what to say, et cetera. This zine was created in a way to juxtapose just a few of those expectations with humor and how often men will do the exact opposite, which can be annoying at best and harmful at worst. These expectations shouldn’t exist for anyone, let alone only a certain group of people. We’re better off without ridiculous ideas about how exactly some people should act.

Artist Statement

My work takes inspiration from stories I’ve read, seen, and written. I’m interested especially in fantasy and science-fiction genres, which thus are incorporated into much of my work. Combining the two, as well, is something I am also working towards. I create a number of character designs and am working towards creating more environmental pieces as well. I believe in taking inspiration from almost anything and frequently am inspired by video games especially.

1) Given Chomsky's views on media and manufactured consent, would it ever be possible to truly create an independent, unbiased source of information for the people? 2) Of the five filters, which seem to have the greatest effect on media? Why? Does this change for any reason?

Lecture Review 2

Samantha Spreitzer Lecture Review ART 343 Date of Lecture: April 12, 2018 Morgan Craig Lecture             I was often thoroughly impressed by Morgan Craig’s pieces. Admittedly, I am impressed anytime someone has a sort of hyper realistic style of painting or drawing, so this definitely fit. But he also played with ideas of angles and color, often brightening colors to draw the viewers in, which, in his words, is a play on capitalism’s spectacle. His works often addressed capitalism in some, normally fairly negative, way that made sense for his subjects. More than anything else, they seemed to be places where capitalism had failed to deliver on its bountiful promises, instead leaving behind deserted shells of places that once held life, but not so much anymore.
