Made of Stardust
The
fact that we are quite literally made of stardust has fascinated me since I
learned about it. The elements that make us up are, at least partially, old
things that have traversed the universe. That prime law of matter, that it can
never be created or destroyed but only transformed, is at work here. The cosmic
dust from stars long gone stays within our bodies, tying us to the universe at
large. At the start of this project, I knew I wanted to incorporate something
involving space, and I eventually settled on a rather colorful abstraction, of
sorts, of a spiral galaxy. I paired it with a quote that had stayed in my mind
since my initial ideas for this project. “Luminous beings are we, not this
crude matter.” While it can be a bit open to interpretation, even in its
original setting, I find that it always reminds me of the stardust inside each
of us.
