Conversation Glasses
These glasses each represent
movements that affect people every day and show their response in resisting
them. Each glass shows phrases, something used as hashtags, that correspond
with the response people have to their issues. The one with ‘Me Too’ represents
the issues of sexual harassment women face, most often in the work place. The
other phrases include ‘Time’s Up, a call for it to end, and ‘Balance Ton Porc’,
the French version which translates to ‘squeal on your pig’. The one with
‘Black Lives Matter’ represents the struggle black people in particular face
against police brutality and the racism often shown in it. The other phrase is
‘Hands Up, Don’t Shoot’, a common mantra used to plead officers not to shoot
people right away. The last one with ‘Me Next?’ shows a few responses people have
had to school shootings that have happened, this one particularly wondering who
would be next, as someone inevitably will be if nothing changes. The other
phrase is ‘Never Again’, another call to end the violence. Using glasses was
intended to show an everyday object, cups people use to drink, and combine them
with issues that face people every day and their ways of resisting those
issues, forcing the viewer or potential user to face the problems.
